Why getting married in Paris?

engagement-photoshoot-dvvevents- getting married in paris 57

Let’s answer to this important question: why getting married in Paris? Why everybody is so in love with Paris? Well, well… Because it is one of the most beautiful and romantic cities in the world. I am not telling you that because I am Parisian and I love my city.

Paris has incredible monuments known all around the world such as the Eiffel Tower or the Sacré Coeur, if I have to name two of them. These places are important and very visited but they are also intimate venues all around them. We already planned an incredible elopement with first views over the Eiffel Tower keeping some privacy for the ceremony.

Paris has full of venues depending on what you want to plan for your ceremony. If you want to plan it near a big monument such as the Eiffel Tower, a park as the Buttes Chaumont or the Tuileries park, a dock to have a complete view over the Seine, an arty venue such as the outside of the Palais de Tokyo,… Of course, I am talking about all free venues because you have much more venues all very different if you have some budget for your ceremony’s venue.

What is a symbolic ceremony?

A symbolic ceremony is maybe the most personal and easy way to get married in Paris. The symbolic ceremony is a ceremony which has no value for the Administration. That is to say you will have to get married “officially” in your own country or in France – but for this option, you will have to prove that you are living in France for example.

A symbolic ceremony can be prepared by yourselves, a friend, a member of your family or a celebrant as me. It is the actual alternative to all religious ceremony or civil ceremony.

In your symbolic ceremony, you will have the complete liberty to plan everything: from your enter in the ceremony to the vows (or not) without forgetting the choice of your ceremony’s venue,… You will be able to choose each element of the ceremony, each text, each song if you want or not,… One word for the symbolic ceremony: L-I-B-E-R-T-Y!

Why having a symbolic ceremony in Paris?

Congratulations! You have decided to plan a symbolic ceremony for your wedding. But why Paris for the symbolic ceremony?

Our beautiful couple for their elopement near the Sacré Coeur – Montmartre

As I told you earlier, having your ceremony in Paris is the choice of the romanticism… Don’t forget that Paris is the City of Love <3 And it is a well-deserved reputation! It can be an elopement or a small wedding, a bigger wedding or a surprise for your loved-one too.

A symbolic ceremony gives us the opportunity to choose the venue of your choice even if we have to be careful. For example, if you want to plan an outdoor ceremony, there will be a limitation of number of guests if you wish to do it in a public space. As a matter of fact, for security reason, it will not be possible to plan it for more than 15 guests. If you are more than 15, it will be easier and safer to plan it in a private venue… You would not like to have the Police invited to your ceremony, right? 😉

Renewal of vows

A renewal of vows in Paris: Birgitta & James

Today, in Paris, is not a sunny day! That’s why I would like to write for you an article about Birgitta & James renewal of vows in Paris, last February. That day, we had an incredible sunny day and they were gorgeous!

Birgitta, James… & their family!

Each wedding, each couple has their own history but Birgitta and James have an history full of love and family 🙂

Planning a wedding in Paris being abroad can be so difficult (and you know it quite well!). But Birgitta and James had the full support of their family.
A so beautiful support that we started planning this beautiful event with Birgitta’s daughter!

It is such a beautiful story between this mother and daughter that we had to share it with you…

@Picturing Love

Their sunny renewal of vows
in Paris

Birgitta and James wanted to plan their ceremony and dinner in a venue where they can have incredible views over the city. They didn’t want to have juste one view over Paris but a global view of the city and we found the perfect restaurant… This restaurant is located in a high building and may have the most beautiful views over Paris than in anywhere else! Its views look like the views we can have on the top of the Sacré Coeur (without climbing all the stairs!)

But, first of all, it was important for our lovely couple to plan a shooting in Paris with Birgitta’s daughter family. We had an incredible time with them during this shooting. Our photographer, Picturing Love, did an incredible shooting (as always :-p). She shot Birgitta and James as a couple who were getting married in Paris but also the little family with them as an unite family in Paris! Once, they had done this shooting with the family, Birgitta’s daughter went to the restaurant to welcome all the guests with my assistant on that day. Meanwhile, Birgitta and James continued their little trip in Paris, especially in the district of the Louvre.

At the same time, everything was going perfect in the restaurant. We planned to make the ceremony and the dinner in the same private venue. Sometimes, you only have one room to plan both events. That private room was just incredibly beautiful with a gorgeous view over Paris and the Eiffel Tower.

As I said before, Birgitta’s daughter arrived before the guests at the restaurant to welcome them as they were all coming from abroad. I love when all the guests make sure to be present for their close family or friends even if it means to take the plane to another country (Yeah destination weddings in Paris!). Everybody was very well dressed and so impressed about this venue.

The ceremony and party

@Picturing Love
Everybody was now ready to welcome the bride and groom for the ceremony… And they did a perfect entrance with a reggae song! Everybody was dancing and celebrating their love, what a great entrance.

We did a 10-15 minutes ceremony because they wanted to renew their vows without making a long ceremony… After the ceremony, it was time to celebrate with some Champagne, of course!

And what about yours?

Doesn’t they seem so happy? Do you want to plan your renewal of vows in Paris too? Follow the link, I will be very happy to talk with you!

8 Tips to Get Married in Paris

Today, we are going to share with you 8 tips to get married in Paris. A lot of you have asked us to give you some advices to get married in Paris and as Santa Claus came a few weeks ago, this is our gift! Don’t hesitate to comment and to share with us your other questions <3

1 – Choose a district in Paris

Our first advice: if you want to fully enjoy your wedding day in Paris, we advise you to choose a particular location in Paris. It is possible to get married in Montmartre and then, have your wedding lunch or dinner near Notre-Dame for example. But you will lose time in traffic, waiting for your wedding car and if you have guests, waiting for them,… We suggest you choose a district in Paris, the one you are in love and to enjoy each moment in it. A Parisian district is still an important part of Paris and you will find a lot of different locations, parks, venues, small streets,… for your ceremony, your lunch/diner and your shooting too!

8 tips to get married in Paris 3

2- Be careful with your wedding’s date

Indeed, this tip can seem too easy but let’s talk about it. Paris is a big city with a lot of small events and big events. Maybe an event will take place at your ceremony’s place which will have a big consequence on your D-Day.

Also, in France, each season has its own price. If you want to lower your budget, you should plan your ceremony during winter for example because venues, as they are less weddings as in summer, will give you a cheaper price for the rent. As well, they are some days during the year that are really more expensive than the others in the same season. For example, the New Year Eve. It is one of the most beautiful day of the year in Paris. However, all the vendors will ask you expensive or very expensive prices for the different services. If you want to take your budget lower, the date of your wedding is an important point.

3- Most of the venues in Paris have their own caterer

While you will be looking after your venue, you will notice that in Paris a lot of venues have their own caterer. You will only have the choice to choose your menu, so be careful! Don’t hesitate to look on social media if the caterer has good reviews. Having a wonderful venue is important but having an excellent dinner can be one of the most important part of your wedding.

Also, if you have a precise budget, some of the times, the caterer of the most beautiful places has expensive menus. Before signing with those places, ask for different menus to be sure their caterer will answer to your ideal menu.

4- Wines and Champagne

Yes, we could have talk about this in the caterer’s point. But we have decided to separate it. Why? Because you can decide to buy your own wines and champagne with some caterers. A part of them won’t accept to let you buy your alcohol drinks, even more if you have rent a restaurant or a hotel. Some other will apply what we called a “droit de bouchon” which is a tax on each bottle that will be served. It can be around 8 to 20€ per bottle!
Hopefully, you have caterers who will allow you to choose and buy your own wines and Champagne. Because, yes, we think that the couple has to have the possibility to choose each service of their wedding.

5- Sleeps for your guests

If you are planning a destination wedding, you will have to find sleeps for your guests so it will be easy for them to plan their trip to Paris. Also, they will be more relax if you give them the name of the hotel where everybody is going to stay.

In Paris, there are only a very few places where your guests will be able to sleep. We recommend you look for an hotel or a villa for your accommodation.

6- Dancing Party

In Paris, venues have restrictions about music. Most of the venues will propose you a rental until midnight or 2 am. If you want to have a big party, be careful with this point! Some of the Parisian venues will propose you to plan your party until 4 or 5 am with extra hours. The price will depend on each venue but the price of an extra-hour can start at 200€ to 800€ for example.
However, if you have a restricted budget for the venue, you can also decide to go on the suburbs of Paris where they are a lot of incredible venues too!

7- The Bridal Dress

If you have bought your bridal dress, the first question will be: “how will I transport my bridal dress?”. You have two possibilities. You can transport it in its slipcover with you in the cabin. The dress will be protected but it can be heavy if you have a voluminous dress. On the other hand, you can decide to transport it in a luggage. The dress will be protected and will only have to ask at your hotel for example to prepare it at their pressing service.

However, you can decide to buy it in Paris because we have a lot of different dress boutiques. This option can be a good idea but you have to come to Paris a few months before the wedding because you have to order it and make the dress be altered. Also, what about rent it in a dress boutique? It can be a very good option if you don’t want to travel with your dress!

8- Your Wedding-Planner

But if you want one advice, it will be this one: planning you destination wedding in Paris is a very important task. You will need the expertise and savoir-faire of a Parisian wedding-planner. You will be more relax during the planning and your D-Day will be as perfect you dreamed it! Your symbolic ceremony in Paris… Wait, a what?

wedding in Paris

You may have heard about symbolic ceremonies for weddings or elopements. Since a few years, the symbolic ceremony is becoming the new trend in ceremonies for couples who want to customize their wedding but also their ceremony. The religious ceremony is now competing with the symbolic ceremony as the civil ceremony is still mandatory to officially be considered as married. How can you plan your symbolic ceremony in Paris?

What is it exactly a symbolic ceremony?

Before the arrival of the symbolic ceremony, there was only two choices: the civil ceremony and the religious ceremony.

The civil ceremony is mandatory to be officially considered as married. You have to get married in the City Hall of the city where you live even if some exceptions exist. For example, if you want to get married in Paris and you have no parents living in the city or one of you both, you won’t be able to get married in Paris with a civil ceremony. In France, you have to be living in the city where you want to get married (or a very close parent). If not, your application will be refused.

The religious ceremony is possible in Paris of course. However, you will have to follow a big preparation and you will have to be in contact with your religious referent in your country such as in France. It can be a long preparation with a lot of stuff to prepare and send.

That’s why we think the symbolic ceremony is a very good option if you want to get married in Paris with a ceremony which looks like you. The symbolic ceremony has no value but you can plan it as you want and where you want. You have a complete liberty to create your own texts, your own vows too. If you want to enter with an AC-DC music, you can! If you want your doggy to bring the rings, you can! If you want your grandma to have a dance with your witnesses, you can too! LOL 🙂 You have a complete freedom to create the structure, the texts, the songs, the pictures and videos if you want,… of your symbolic ceremony.

Who can be your officiant?

symbolic ceremony in paris 2

With the symbolic ceremony, you have also the opportunity to choose your officiant. Here are your two options:

  • You can choose a professional celebrant. He will guide you step by step in the construction of your ceremony. He will help you to write your vows if you need it and introduce you the several rituals, invent one with you if you want – as the ceremony is yours, you can also decide to not do any ritual. Sabrina is our celebrant. She will guide you in every step and make sure you create the perfect ceremony. To have a range of price, to be guided by our celebrant will cost you from 696€. (- If you want to contact her -)

  • You can choose a close relative or friend: because you know exactly who can relate your love story. He or she is that friend who knows everything about you both, who supports you during the hard moments and has an incredibly talent to speak in front of a public. Yes, this moment must be a beautiful for you three, take care of your officiant, choose an officiant who don’t have any problem with speaking to a public. You also can find a professional celebrant who can coach your officiant for the ceremony.

Your symbolic ceremony in Paris… where?

symbolic ceremony in paris

Paris is full of surprises, your symbolic ceremony in Paris could take place wherever you want. We have already talked about places for a ceremony in Paris in an article a few weeks ago – the perfect place for your ceremony in Paris – but let’s have a reminder…

First of all, you have all the important monuments which are perfect places to plan your ceremony in Paris. The Eiffel Tower and the Trocadero, the Louvre and its gardens, the so romantic district of Montmartre with the Sacré Coeur, the wonderful Notre Dame,…. These places are gorgeous but you will have to deal with the crowd, so if you can do your ceremony early that would be better. If not, don’t be afraid, there is always a good spot with less crowd in each important place.

You can also plan your ceremony in one of the parks of the city. We have the chance to have beautiful parks and some near the most important places in Paris. What about the Tuileries Gardens for your ceremony near the Louvre? Or the chapel of the incredible Buttes Chaumont’s park?

Another place which can be so romantic are the Seine docks. You will find docks in a big part of the City because the Parisian river, the Seine, crosses a big part of the city.If you want to plan your ceremony during the day and you don’t want to deal with all the tourists (we love them but we don’t want them to get invited to the ceremony :-D), you will find perfect docks with intimate spots. What about planning your ceremony with views over the City and with the romanticism bring by the river?

Now… Are you ready to plan the most beautiful symbolic ceremony in Paris?
